To Your Health With Jourdin Hendershot:

Disadvantages Of Apple Cider Vinegar

Jourdin
You may recall in last month‘s newsletter, I wrote an article about the benefits of using Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).  Unfortunately, after my article was published in our monthly newsletter, new claims started popping up about the negative side effects of using ACV.

Although using ACV in your daily routine is beneficial, it‘s extremely important to learn the proper way to consume or use ACV because it can lead to many short and long term problems.

When using ACV, it must be diluted.  Never take this straight because it can lead to dizziness, nausea, stomach pain, digestion problems, burning of the esophagus and can cause teeth to decay.

Studies have shown that consuming or using ACV straight and in large quantities can have long-term effects on the body.  Here are just a few examples:
  • Burned esophagus – Consuming ACV or ACV pills can lead to burring of the esophagus which is untreatable.

  • Skin irritation – Using undiluted ACV on the skin can cause chemical burns, some popular places where burns happen are on the face, this is because people use ACV to prevent or heal acne.  Another place is in areas where people are removing moles or skin tags.

  • Tooth decay – Anything acid like soda, juice and ACV that comes in contact with your teeth will wear down the enamel causing you to get cavities.  Consuming ACV already leaves your teeth in a dangerous position but using ACV as a mouthwash is even worse.  *Fun fact: ACV acidity is just under stomach and battery acid acidity.
If you continue using or consuming ACV, be responsible by limiting your intake (2 TBS per day).  Minimize tooth exposure and avoid it altogether if you have digestive problems.

Remember less is more!

Grandma's Kitchen With Grandma C.:

Cheesy Sausage, Egg and Hashbrown Breakfast Bake

Grandma C.
Ingredients
  1. 1 lb maple flavored ground pork sausage
  2. 2 cups fresh or frozen hash brown potatoes
  3. 1 white onion, coarsely diced
  4. 1 cup thinly sliced celery
  5. ½ cup fresh chopped cilantro
  6. 5 extra large or (4) jumbo eggs
  7. ½ cup half and half cream
  8. 1 pkg shredded monterrey jack cheese, or cheddar jack cheese
  9. 1 can refrigerator buscuits
  10. Salt and pepper

In a skillet, brown the sausage with the onion and celery.  Drain.  Whisk the half and half cream, eggs, cilantro, salt and pepper together in a medium bowl.

Add half the cheese to the egg mixture and stir.  Grease a baking dish (approx. 2 quart size) and spread the hash brown potatoes evenly in the bottom of the dish.

Pour the egg/cheese mixture over the potatoes.  Spread the sausage over the eggs and potatoes and layer the rest of the cheese on top.

Bake, covered, in a 350 degree oven for approximately 45 minutes. Remove from oven.  Remove the lid.  Place the refrigerator biscuits on the top of the casserole and return to oven, uncovered.  Bake an additional 10 to 12 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown on top.  Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Serve with fresh fruit!

Enjoy!  And remember, if it looks and smells good, eat it!!

Keeping Fit With Clayton "TR" Parker

Occupied Apparatus Does Not Mean Break Time!

Clayton (TR)
Believe it or not, January through March is the busiest time for gyms.

Anybody know why?  Let me help you…  New Year‘s Resolutions.

Now, the good news is there is light at end of the tunnel and it is not a train coming.  By April they will be less packed because that is about the time of the year that most people‘s resolutions start to fall off the cliff. (Except for my readers, you all are great at keeping up with your workout goals…right? I hope so!).

Basically, what this means for us is that they gyms are going to be packed for a little while, especially early morning and evenings.  Packed gyms also means that you favorite apparatus may be occupied when you go to use it.

So what do when that happens?
Well, let me start by saying what NOTto do.  DON‘T TAKE A BREAK!  Breaking during routine will lower your adrenaline and cause you to get tired.  That starts the downward spiral to the end of your workout routine for that day.

Please note, if you need a break for water or you are getting exhausted then by all means take one.  That is not what I am talking about.  I am talking about not sitting down waiting on your machine to open up.  So what do you do? Here are a few tips:
  1. Adjust your workout and go to the next machine.  If the leg press is next on your list and it is occupied, pass it up, go to do the leg curls machine and come back to the leg press once it opens up.

  2. Talk to the person using it and see if they mind if you switch off.  This may seem awkward at first, but believe it or not it works.  For the most part, people work these machines in sets so while they are in between sets you may have time to do your sets.  If you talk to the person, chances are good that they will swap with you in fact, that‘s how I found my workout partner.  He was using a machine I was waiting on and I asked him if we could swap sets on that machine now, we meet at the gym and work out together.

  3. Keep moving!  If you don‘t anticipate a long wait or that is your last machine for the day, then it is okay to wait.  However, you should keep moving.  Whether you are lifting a medicine ball, doing squats, jumping jacks, heel raises, arm circles, jogging in place or stretching, do something to keep moving.
Whichever one you choose to do is better than just standing there or sitting down.

Until next time: Keep Your Adrenaline Flowing and The Momentum Going!

Here’s Your Answer

Questions From Our Members

K. Bell of Sun City, Arizona asks:

“I think that a Savon provider is overcharging on actual lab fees, what can you do to help me?”

Savon’s Answer

In most cases we can contact the provider and discuss the lab fees.  If we determine that they are inflating their lab fees and are not willing to lower them, we will help the member find a different provider.  In some cases we may terminate the agreement with the offending facility.
