Hair removal mistakes

Seems like these days it is getting harder and harder to get a clean close shave that actually lasts.  Did you know that there are many mistakes that you could possibility be making.  Many people do what they think is the best but actually it may be the worst for shaving.  Here are are the most common mistakes:

Women‘s Top 7…

  • 1.  Not Exfoliating:  Before you shave you should exfoliate your skin.  This gets rid of all the dead skin cells that could clog up your razor.  Plus it will give you smooth and soft skin.

  • 2.  Contorting your face as you tweeze:  This is not the time to start making faces in the mirror! When you lift your eyebrow up it changes the natural shape and throws off the symmetry you want.  If you are nervous because of the pain, try to relax your face as you pluck and numb the area with a piece of ice.

  • 3.  Shaving first thing in the morning:  Your skin is puffy (swollen) first thing in the morning, so your hair can actually be hidden.  If you shave at night you will be able to get a closer shave.

  • 4.  Shaving during a hot bath:  Soaking in a hot bath will make your legs swell, if you want to do it during a bath do this right when you get in.  Waiting will only make you more stubbly than smooth.

  • 5.  Shaving with a dull blade:  This is a big no-no.  When you need to shave always use a brand new blade.  There are many risks while using a dull blade such as: uneven cuts, rough hair ridges, small cuts and razor burn.

  • 6.  Skipping shaving cream:  If you skip out on the shaving cream you are more likely to get razor burn.  Shaving cream is supposed to be applied against the grain of the hair, to make hairs stand up.

  • 7.  Waxing too much:  You should always wait four weeks between each wax.  Your hair that you want to wax should be a quarter-inch long, so the wax has something to grab.
Men's Top 7…
  • 1.  Using cold water:  Washing face with warm water is important before shaving; it opens the pores and softens the hair.

  • 2.  Forgetting pre-shave oil:  This oil softens the hair and protects your skin.

  • 3.  Shaving with dull blades:  When you need to shave always use a brand new blade.  There are many risks while using a dull blade such as: uneven cuts, rough hair ridges, small cuts and razor bur.

  • 4.  Shaving same area too much:  With a dull blade you are more likely to shave the same spot over and over again.

  • 5.  Shaving against the grain:  To prevent irritation.  Shave down with the grain of your hair.

  • 6.  Ignoring after-shave:  After-shave is a great way to seal your pores.

  • 7.  Neglecting moisturizer:  Moisturizer helps keep your skin smooth and hydrated.

Blueberry cream cheese layered dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 can blueberry pie filling
  • 1 jar marshmallow creme
  • 1 small tub of whipped cream cheese
  • 1 regular sized tub cool whip
  • 1 cup of crunchy cereal (such as Honey Bunches of Oats)

Mix whipped cream, ½ jar of marshmallow creme and cream cheese with wooden spoon until smoothly blended.  In the bottom of a parfait cup or stemmed dessert glass, layer whipped cream mixture, followed by blueberries, then a small layer of crunchy cereal.  Repeat.  Top with a cherry or a few raspberries.  Chill approx. 45 minutes before serving.

Your Body On Meth

Methamphetamine (also known as meth, crystal, speed, ice, and glass to name a few) is a very addictive stimulant that is closely related to amphetamine.  It increases the levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which stimulates brain cells, enhancing mood and body movement and is long lasting.  It is a white, odorless powder taken orally, by snorting, injecting, or a rock "crystal" that is heated and smoked.  The desired effect of meth is described as a euphoric sensation or a “rush”, which is where the deadly drug holds its appeal.

Whether taken just once or regularly, the effects of the drug on your body can cause major health problems such as rapid or irregular heartbeat, increased body temperature and blood pressure, insomnia, confusion, violent behavior, and convulsions, all of which can lead to death.  People who inject the drug are subject to infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS or hepatitis.  The physical effects of the drug are just as severe, causing rapid weight loss and unsightly, painful sores all over the body.  The worst physical effect meth has on the body is what is known as “meth mouth”.

WARNING: Graphic picture below
Meth Mouth

In 2009 1.2 million Americans 12 and older had used meth, and sadly that number is growing. These are CHILDREN. Spread awareness and share this article with your loved ones. Meth: just once is all it takes.

Basically, meth mouth is advanced tooth decay caused from effects the drug has on the body such as Bruxism (clenching or grinding of teeth), Hypo salivation (dry mouth), and poor oral hygiene.  The drug itself also damages teeth due to the acidic ingredients used in making it.

Insurance Insight: - Twelve questions to ask your health coverage
Brought to you courtesy of June Shaffer with Arizona Life lines.

Part 3 of 6

When was the last time you really looked at your health insurance policy?  People usually look at their policy when they purchase it - or after they submit a claim and find the insurance company doesn't pay what they thought it would.

Adequate health insurance is an absolute necessity to protect your health, your home, your business and your hard-earned assets.  Since over half of all bankruptcies and mortgage foreclosures are due in part to the medical bills resulting from catastrophic illness or injury, it is worth your time to review your present health coverage.

How does your policy rate?  There are 12 points to consider when reviewing your insurance policy.  This month we will address points 5 and 6 and will continue to address 2 points a month for the next 4 months.

5. Does your insurance company require precertification before going to the hospital?  Do they penalize you for not obtaining pre-authorization, or for seeking medical attention on weekends or holidays?  While precertification is common (it allows the carrier to request - and pay for - a second opinion), your insurance coverage should be good any time you need it.  (Precertification and/or preauthorization is typical among most of insurance plans, incidentally, but is never a guarantee of claim payment.)

6. Do you have a lot of choice when it comes to selecting doctors?  Or are you limited to medical care provided by a small group chosen by the carrier? If coverage is through a PPO, does your doctor participate?  How big is the list?  A good PPO includes several thousand doctors, with dozens of facilities.  A good HMO or Managed Care Plan should contain several hundred (or more) independent physicians and specialists, not just salaried doctors or physicians captive to that plan or medical group.
