Who owns my x-rays, the dentist or me?

It is a common misconception that when you pay for x-rays, they become your property.  Many people assume so, and are unpleasantly surprised when it comes time to have your records transferred.

The reason your x-rays belong to the dentist is because they are required, by law, to keep all dental records (including diagnostics, treatment plans, and patient history) for a specified period of time.  When you pay for an x-ray, you are basically paying for the processing, development, and labor.

Although this can be a major inconvenience, especially to those on a budget, the reasons behind this are designed for your protection as well as the dentists.  Your dental records are extremely unique and can be used to identify you in certain cases, they can be used to help diagnose other health problems you may have or develop, among many other things.

Most dentist offices, however, are happy to provide copies (sometimes for a fee) of your x-rays and records at your request.

To your health:
Trying to look good for summer? ; Here‘s why fad diets don‘t work!

I‘m sure you‘ve seen the miracle diets online or in magazines, you know, the ones that advertise a diet that can make you lose 50 lbs in a week by eating nothing but tofu and celery? Millions of people do it every year, trying anything to get that beach body in time for summer, only to find themselves unpleasantly plump again by fall.  Why is that? The fact is that fad diets simply do not work.

Fad diets are a quick fix for an ongoing weight problem.  Problem is, it‘s only temporary.  In most cases, you will lose weight, but once you go back to your regular eating habits or stop your diet even for a short period of time, you‘ll gain it all back and then some.  These diets mess with your metabolism, because when you dramatically decrease your calorie intake, your body adjusts to that calorie level.  Once you start eating normal again, you‘ll gain even more weight because your body is now used to surviving on fewer calories.  Another problem with fad diets is that they only focus on the food you eat.  Have you ever noticed how these diets generally fail to include an exercise plan? That‘s because diets like these are designed for the fastest weight loss with little to no effort.  In turn, you end up losing weight, along with muscle tone, causing you to still look chubby regardless.

These are just a few reasons why fad diets aren‘t a good weight loss option.  There are countless other factors you need to consider if you choose to try one of these diets, especially the damage it could do to your body in the long run.  The bottom line here is that the only way to successfully lose weight and keep it off is to find a proper balance of good dieting and exercise.

The above health material is provided as an information service. ; It should not be used for diagnostic purposes nor is it intended to take the place of the important relationship between you and your doctor.

A question from a member:

Question; ; If a root canal is listed on the fee schedule, why am I being sent to a specialist?

Savon's Answer:

Chances are, the general dentist you are seeing is unable to or is uncomfortable with performing that particular procedure.  The procedure may be listed on the fee schedule, but that does not mean that your particular dentist is able to perform it.  The good news is that a specialist isn‘t your only option.  In many cases where people have been referred out, we‘ve been able to send them to another general dentist who may be more qualified and more comfortable with that type of work.  It may be a small hassle to have to change dentists for a few appointments, but it will save you more money in the long run. If you run into this problem and wish to avoid the higher prices at the specialists office, simply contact us at 1-800-809-3494 and a Customer Care Representative will assist you.
