Oil Pulling
Oil pulling (also known as oil swishing), is a very simple, harmless, cost effective natural remedy procedure for oral and over-all health that consists of swishing oil in your mouth for about 15-20 minutes.
You can experiment with different types of oils to see which one you like best. Some of the most popular used for this are:
- Sesame oil
- Sunflower oil
- Coconut oil
|
How does Oil pulling work:
In the morning, on an empty stomach, put one tablespoon of oil in your mouth (do not swallow). Swish the oil around slowly for about 15-20 minutes. This process makes the oil mix with your saliva. Swishing activates the enzymes and the enzymes draw out the toxins in your body through the mucous membranes in the mouth.
Toxins that pass through the salivary ducts into the saliva and oil mixture in your mouth will cause the oil to become thicker and white in color. Be careful not to swallow the oil because it is now toxic. Spit the oil into the sink and rinse and wash your mouth thoroughly. This process can be repeated up to three times a day, but always do it before a meal and on an empty stomach.
Now that I've told you how to do it, let's look at some of the benefits of Oil Pulling:
Oral Benefits
- Helps whiten teeth
- Decreases plaque build up
- Decreases Halitosis (bad breath)
- Reduces levels of Streptococcus (bacteria associated with cavities)
- Gums become pinker and healthier
- Cleans the mouth
- Reduces inflammation
Over-all Health benefits:
- Helps with acne, eczema and psoriasis
- Helps with detoxifying your body
- Helps with sleeping issues
- Helps allergy suffers
- Helps with pain issues
- Helps balance hormones
Although I have never tried it, I have done quite a bit or research on this practice and I do have some friends that have actually tried it and they said that their mouths felt very clean afterwards. As with anything you are trying for the first time, Please make sure to consult with your dentist or doctor before you try oil pulling.

Cheesy Pasta and Kielbasa Casserole
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- ½ cup sliced celery
- 1 pkg kielbasa, either beef or turkey, sliced
- ½ cups penne, rigatoni or rotini pasta, your choice
- ½cup grated parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup grated mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp butter or margarine
- ½ can fire roasted stewed tomatoes, drained
- Garlic salt, salt and pepper

Boil the pasta according to package directions. Set aside. Slice the kielbasa in ¼ inch rounds. Saute kielbasa with onion and celery until browned, drain away any grease.
Put milk, butter and cheeses together in a bowl and microwave until very warm and cheese is slightly melted. (Microwave temperatures vary, so you'll have to keep an eye on it).
Add sauteed kielbasa mixture to pasta, toss. Add salt, pepper and garlic salt to taste. Add cheesy milk mixture and mix until everything is coated. Then add the stewed tomatoes, just folding them in gently.
Top with seasoned bread crumbs and bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until top is slightly browned. Serve with garlic toast and enjoy!

Have Flat Feet? You Can Work-Out Without The Pain!
If you or anyone you know has flat feet then you know the pain that comes along with it. Running, jumping, walking or even standing for a long period of time can cause pain. Before I get into the simple yet extraordinary secret to limit the pain, let‘s talk about what it means when you have flat feet.
The arch in the foot is created by the plantar calcaneonavicular ligament. Let me explain that. Being a ligament, means it attaches from one bone to another, (a tendon attaches from a muscle to a bone). Plantar tells you that it is on the bottom of the foot. The 500 dollar word calcaneonavicular is actually a compound word meaning calcaneus (heel bone) and navicular (front foot bone). So basically it is the ligament that you feel on the bottom of your foot that attaches from your heel to the ball of your foot. In layman's terms, it is known as the spring ligament.
|
It is called this for a specific reason. Not only is it easier to remember and pronounce then plantar calcaneonavicular ligament, but it is also defines what the ligament does. When you step, jump, run, squat or walk (etc), the spring ligament absorbs the shock of the ground underneath you as well as your weight coming down on your foot. By doing this, it stops you from having pain go through your legs when you do this. It is similar to the shocks on your vehicle because it absorbs the force of the bumps to make for smoother travel.
For someone who is flat footed, the spring ligament is hyperextended or stretched out to where it does not make the foot arch, similar to stretching out a spring. Not having the spring ligament to absorb the force of the activity causes a person with flat feet to feel pain all the way up their legs. Someone with flat feet could experience pain in their legs, knees, hips and lower back. The pain is more amplified after an activity to where they are on their feet for an extended period of time. This makes working out very difficult.
The answer is really simple. Get an arch support. Depending on the degree of the condition, you may be able to get by with the over the counter ones that they have in your local drug store or you may have to have your doctor order you some custom ones. Either way the arch support will act as a false spring ligament and absorb some of the force from the activity, thus resulting in less pain. If you are in a pain from having flat feet a good treatment is a foot massage or rolling your foot on a ball while seated. This will relieve some of the pressure that is built up on the bottom of your foot.
Make sure you consult with your doctor prior to getting any arch support or engaging in any treatment. Degrees of flat feet can vary and if you are unsure the extent of the condition you are susceptible to doing more harm than good.
Until next time… Stay Healthy, Stay Strong and keep that spring in your step! (pun intended)
