Quote Of The Month: I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. - (Elayne Boosler 1952-present)

Tanning
Finally it‘s that time of year you can lay out by the pool, and get your nice bronze skin. But do you know the risks and dangers that tanning (indoor or outdoor) can do you‘re your skin?
How Tanning happens:
The sun's rays contain two types of ultraviolet radiation that reach your skin: UVA and UVB. UVB radiation burns the upper layers of skin (the epidermis), causing sunburns. UVA radiation is what makes people tan. UVA rays penetrate to the lower layers of the epidermis, where they trigger cells called melanocytes to produce melanin. Melanin is the brown pigment that causes tanning. Melanin is the body's way of protecting skin from burning. Darker-skinned people tan more deeply than lighter-skinned people because their melanocytes produce more melanin. But just because a person doesn't burn does not mean that he or she is also protected against skin cancer and other problems.
|
The whole object of tanning is to look better. However the side effects of tanning are so damaging to the skin that the results can even lead to death. Some of the most devastating results of the tanning side effects include: Skin Cancer‘s (3 types), wrinkles, eye damage, damage to the body‘s DNA, and older looking skin.
What is your skin type?
- Beige skin, blue or gray eyes; blonde or light brown hair and some freckles. This skin type has a strong tendency to sunburn outdoors, but sometimes tans.
- Light brown skin, brown eyes and hair. This skin type sometimes burns outdoors but always tans.
- Light brown or olive skin, dark brown eyes and hair. This skin type sometimes burns outdoors and tans readily.
- Brown skin, dark brown hair and eyes. This skin type rarely burns outdoors and tans easily.
- Black skin, black-brown eyes and hair. This skin type rarely sunburns outdoors.
Please use caution while tanning; no matter if it‘s outdoors or indoors!

Pistachio Salad
Ingredients
- 1 3oz. pkg Pistachio Pudding mix
- 1 small container Cool Whip
- 1 small can crushed pineapple or pineapple chunks (your choice!)
- ½ bag of mini marshmallows
|
Place Cool Whip in a medium mixing bowl. Add pineapple (with the juice) and stir. Add Pistachio Pudding mix and fold into mixture until mixed. Then add marshmallows and fold. Chill for about an hour and serve!
This is a basic recipe...there are variations! You can use banana pudding mix and add coconut along with the pineapple and marshmallows, or you can use vanilla pudding with mandarin oranges instead of pineapple, (use the juice from the can as well) or add fresh fruit such as strawberries or raspberries. Don't be afraid to get creative!

To Your Health:
Health Benefits Of Bananas
Here are a few of the incredible health benefits of this commonplace fruit:
- Bananas are good for your heart and nerves: Bananas contain a high dose of potassium - an essential ingredient to keep your heart and nervous system in good shape. Potassium is essential for proper muscle contraction including: the normal rhythmic pumping of the heart.
- Bananas are good for your kidneys and bones: The benefits to the kidneys and the bones are again due to the high potassium content of bananas. A normal intake of potassium diminishes calcium output in the urine and minimizes the risk of kidney stones.
- Bananas can act as mood enhancers or mild sedatives: Bananas contain tryptophan. Tryptophan helps the body to produce serotonin - which has a calming effect on the brain (creates a stable mood) and acts as a mild sedative.
- Bananas are good for your blood: Bananas are one of the highest sources of naturally available vitamin B6. B6 plays an important role in converting tryptophan to serotonin and also helps the body to make hemoglobin - a crucial ingredient of your blood.
As always eat them in moderation and understand that all of the benefits listed above are "general observations" and there will be exceptions to the observations. If you have any health questions or concerns always consult your doctor before you go bananas!
The above health material is provided as an information service. It should not be used for diagnostic purposes nor is it intended to take the place of the important relationship between you and your doctor.
News You Can Use: News From Inside Your Dental Plan
Thinking Of Dropping Your Dental Plan For An "In House" Plan? Read This First!!!
We have been closely watching the strangest marketing ploy by dentists in recent years. Many dental facilities are offering "In House" dental plans. This means if you join their plan and pay a membership fee to them, they will discount the fee that they charge you for treatment.
What I find so strange about this, if they can afford to give you a discount if you join their plan, why can't they just lower their prices in the first place?
Here are a few things to consider if you are thinking about going to an "in house" dental plan:
- The plan is probably good only with the dental facility that sells it to you.
- If the dental facility is part of a "chain" or "mega center" it will only be good at those centers.
- There will probably not be any nationwide coverage.
- If you decide to leave that dentist or dental group, you may not only be out a dentist, you may be out of a plan.
- If you have a problem with the dentist, there is no "independent plan" to act as a buffer to help resolve the problem. You're on your own!
These are just a few things to consider when deciding to go with an "in house" dental plan. Examine all of your options and ask plenty of questions.

Insurance Insight: - Contrary To Popular Belief:
“I didn‘t put something on my application because I didn‘t think it was important and now they are cancelling me.”
Health - like life - applications are worded very carefully for a good reason: the mean what they say. They are not asking what the applicant thinks is important: if you had a prescription for it, you had a prescription. If you saw a doctor, you saw a doctor. Very clear. Some things will not result in a rescission of a policy if the carrier finds out, but will result in the policy being re-underwritten, meaning a possible exclusion on the condition or a higher premium to cover it. However, it can mean the policy will be cancelled if it is serious enough. It is very difficult to “forget” about the heart attack you had three years ago… or the medication you take for blood pressure every day… or the allergy shots you get every two weeks… or the six weeks you were in alcohol rehab a year ago. Unless you have Alzheimer‘s.
Let the carrier determine what is or is not important. Call your agent if you aren‘t sure about putting down the appendicitis you had 11 years ago or the abnormal lab test you had three years ago. An experienced agent knows what will or won‘t fly. Be up-front with your agent before you do the paperwork; don‘t waste their time or your own if information you have would result in a decline or a different plan being recommended by your agent. No agent wants their client to have a decline on record and the more the agent knows about your health, the less likely that is to happen.
