Cycling For Beginners

Bike riding is great for all ages!  This is a great way to get the whole family together and get some fresh air.  Cycling is a great way to become more active whether you‘re riding to work, school or just riding for fun.

Regular cycling can reduce the risks of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and even stroke.  Cycling can also improve your mood, reduce stress and help lower your weight.

There are some important things you will need to know before you begin cycling:

  • If you have any health problems you need to consult your physician. Make sure he gives you the ok before doing major riding.

  • Make sure your bike is good condition.  If it has been sitting and collecting dust, you might want to consider taking it to a bike shop to make sure it is safe to ride.

  • Make sure you have the proper safety equipment, such as a helmet, elbow and knee pads.
Here are some tips to consider before starting out:
  • Haven‘t cycled in a long time?  Start out in an open area like your local park, until you get the hang of it again.

  • While riding around the open area, try riding one handed so you can make hand signals.  Also try looking around at the scenery so you can practice visual awareness.

  • Once you feel confident enough ease yourself to busier areas.

  • Remember if you are just starting out, take it easy and work your way up.  DON‘T PUSH YOURSELF, this can cause serious injuries.

  • Make a habit of riding.  Ride to work, school, or join a bike club.

Remember:  As with any new activity, take it easy and if you have physical problems consult with your physician before starting.

Quick Spaghetti Bake

Ingredients

  • 1 can or jar of premade spaghetti sauce (such as Prego or Ragu, any flavor)
  • 1 box thin spaghetti noodles
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup sliced celery
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms
  • 1½ cups shredded Mozzerella cheese
  • Salt and Pepper

Boil spaghetti noodles according to package directions, drain.  Grease bottom and sides (or use Pam cooking spray) of a 9 X 9 square baking dish.

Spread ½ cup spaghetti sauce over the bottom of the dish.  Add chopped onion, celery and mushrooms to the remaining sauce, then add the mixture to cooked spaghetti noodles.

Toss till well mixed.  Spread the spaghetti mixture evenly in the baking dish.  Salt and Pepper to taste, then top with mozzerella cheese.

Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes.  Let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then you should be able to slice it like lasagna and serve!  This is a good, quick weekday dinner!

A nice variation is to use a jar of Alfredo sauce instead of Marinara, and add some Chicken.  It makes a wonderful casserole.
