Summer Foods That Help Control Bloating

It‘s that time of the year, when we try to spend our free time down at the pool, on the lakes or at the beach.  Wither its swimming, water sports, fishing, causal boating or sunbathing, we are constantly in our bikinis, swim suits or swimming trunks.

This is also the time of year where we have those wonderful cook outs with all the delicious food, desserts and don‘t forget those adult beverages.  We may find ourselves feeling pretty bloated during or after a fun day in the sun and nobody wants to feel like that when you are in your bathing suit!

Here are some light foods that will help flatten your stomach and ease bloating so you will feel more confident in your suit.

Pineapple:  These contain protease inhibitors, thiols, enzymes including bromelain.  Bromelain assist in digestion by breaking down proteins in the stomach.  Pineapple comes in many ways you can have it fresh, canned, or you can even have it juiced. Plain Yogurt:  Any brand of yogurt will do the job just make sure it is ”plain“.  Eating yogurt will help replace and foster an environment for probiotics to thrive.  The bacteria found in yogurt also helps stimulate the production of white blood cells, which aids in fighting of infections.

Peppermint/peppermint tea:  Peppermint contains an oil called menthol.  Menthol helps relives spasms in the muscle tissue.  Once the muscles are relaxed you will be able to release the pent up gas.  If you are busy or in a hurry grab some peppermint candies, this is short term relief.

If you plan on taking a trip to the pool or to the lake just pack up some pineapple, yogurt or a handful of peppermint candies, to ensure you will feel un-bloated and confident.

What You Must Know About Sunscreen!

Summer‘s here, temperatures are rising and we‘re all spending more time outdoors.  It‘s that time of year, pool time, when we all stock up on our sunscreen supply.  But be cautious when purchasing sunscreen, you might not be getting what you‘re paying for.

Ever slathered on sunscreen before hitting the pool, only to end up with a scorching sunburn?  Here‘s what was happening:  Sunscreens are tested at a specific amount applied to the skin.  Rarely do consumers ever use the proper amount, thus making the SPF (sun protection factor) inaccurate, causing you to burn faster than you thought you would.  Another thing to watch for is sunblock claiming to be water-proof.  The FDA has forced manufacturers to adjust their labels as they ruled the term “water-proof” misleading.  Now, bottles will say “water-resistant” for at least 40-80 minutes.  Unfortunately the new rules don't apply to any new formulas or alternative sun-blocks like powders or sprays.

The FDA has also forced manufacturer labels to omit the term “broad spectrum coverage” unless they prove their formulas contain UVB and UVA rays.  Broad spectrum products help protect against skin cancer, wrinkles, advanced again, and sun damage.

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your sunscreen:
  1. Price doesn‘t matter -  The more expensive doesn‘t always mean the better the quality.

  2. Read the label -  Know if you‘re purchasing sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection, or water protection.

  3. Apply generously -  Go for an SPF of 30 or higher and be sure to slather it on and rub it all the way in, this allows you to get the full benefit of the SPF you chose.  Be even more generous with sprays and powders, as these are types of products are still questionable.

  4. Give it time to work -  Apply your first coat of sunscreen about 15-20 minutes before going out in the sun.  This gives it time to absorb and work properly.

  5. Reapply -  No matter what SPF you choose, always reapply your sunscreen every 2-3 hours, even more frequently if you‘ve been swimming.  This will keep you safe from your sunscreen wearing off and getting unwanted sunburns. Also, be sure to wear protective clothing and find shade for a few minutes every hour or so.
Every 8 minutes, someone in the United States will be diagnosed with melanoma, every hour, someone will die from it. Melanoma is the fastest growing cancer in the United States, caused directly from spending too much time in the sun without proper protection.  It‘s going to be a long, hot summer!  Let‘s all be safe and smart and lower that statistic!

Marketing Tips From Our Marketing Department With Clayton III

Clayton (TR)

Marketing Makes The World Go Round!

That may sound cheesy or silly but if you stop and think about it for a moment, you would probably agree that it makes sense.

Everything is marketing.  Marketing is all around you.

The average person sees 3,000 – 6,000 ads a one day.  Everybody markets something in some aspect on a regular basis.  The key to effective marketing is to be one of the ads that stand out from the 3,000 – 6,000 that your potential clients see.

Here is a tip that could help get you going in the right direction.

Market To Your Client, Not Yourself:  It really does not matter whether you like the marketing campaign, the color on the brochure or whether or not you read the magazine that wants you to run an ad.  You are not selling to yourself.  What matters is whether or not your market is receptive to it and it appeals to them.

Younger demographics will go to the internet for information 97.3% of the time.  The middle aged community will read the newspaper every morning instead of going on the computer to read the news 76% of the time, and 82% of Senior Citizens still use a telephone book.  Those stats should tell you a lot. You are not going to reach many of the younger demographics through newspaper or telephone book.

Think about who your target market is, what is the general age group and then research and collect data to see how to marketing to them effectively.

Remember:  Like it or not, ’Marketing Makes The World Go Round‘!
