Oh no…A specialist?
If you have had any type of extensive dental work done, you made have heard the phrase “I‘m going to refer you to a specialist”. Dreaded right? Or is it?
In this day and age, like the medical profession, dentistry has been broken down into specialties. Aside from their DDS, DMD degree, these specialty dentists have attended extra years of dental school, internships, fellowships and multiple study groups to better treat their patients in their specialty of choice. More and more general dentists are looking to these specialists to treat the patients with more difficult diagnoses, and that isn‘t a bad thing.
|
Who better to find all the little side canals and extra roots during a root canal procedure, than a dentist equipped with a microscope that does nothing but root canals all day?
Even the best general dentists can only be on the up and up so much. With advancements and technologies for each specialty changing daily and even though they try to be, its not easy for your general dentist to be 100% proficient in all aspects of dentistry.
I would always tell my patients when I saw that familiar I-just-got-referred-to-a-specialist grimace, take it as a compliment. If your doctor feels you would be better treated by a specialist, then he‘s telling you that he wants you to have the best care available.

MicroVas Vascular Treatment System
Do you have Diabetic Neuropathy, Ulcers, Slow healing skin, and Chronic pain? MicroVas could help!
MicroVas Vascular Treatment Therapy is the most advanced form of impulse therapy on the market today! The MicroVas therapy sends electromagnetic impulses to targeted areas of the human body and delivers a powerful, deeply penetrating waveform that causes blood to pump more efficiently through the tissues.
MicroVas works by causing muscle fasciculation and contraction relaxation cycles that effectively pump blood through the tissues. This allows oxygen in and helps with the healing process!
|
When someone starts MicroVas treatment we go over questions such as “do you have a pacemaker?” and also go over what to expect with the treatment. Then we will assign a set of the electromagnetic pads to you and put them on the part that needs to be healed. For example “A patient with Diabetic Neuropathy we will place pads down both legs and on the bottom and top of the foot”
The patient may experience twitching of limbs during treatment; this is due to the muscle contractions. Treatments last 45 minutes, after the treatment patients might feel tired and have achy muscles. This will go away after a few more treatments. Treatments are usually scheduled for three times a week.
The pictures below show the healing process with a treatment over 7 months. Picture 1 taken in November 2005, picture 2 taken in March 2006 and picture 3 taken in June of 2006.

Oral Health and Bone Health
(Taken from NIAMS Article May 2009)
Osteoporosis and tooth loss are health concerns that affect many older men and women. Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become less dense and more likely to fracture. This disease can affect any bone in the body, although the bones in the hip, spine, and wrist are affected most often. In the United States today, 10-million individuals already have osteoporosis and 34-million more have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for this disease.
Research suggests a link between osteoporosis and bone loss in the jaw. The bone in the jaw supports and anchors the teeth. When the jawbone becomes less dense, tooth loss can occur. Tooth loss affects approximately one-third of adults age 65 and older.
