The Benefits Of Exercise
Dance For Fitness
Dancing we all do it! Whether it‘s at a club, our car, or at home we all find ourselves dancing time to time. It doesn‘t matter if you are the best or worst dancer; dancing is a great form of exercise.
We do not realize it but regular dancing helps us lose weight, maintain strong bones, improves our posture, and helps relieve stress. The best part about dancing is it is a great way to meet new people while having fun!
If you want to take a dance class, you can contact your local dance studio. Once you have joined a dance class you want to make sure you wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes for the type of dance you have signed up for. (Some types of dance require special shoes) Try to refrain from wearing jewelry during your lesson.
|
*Did you know that if you dance for one hour you can lose around 400 calories, and if you do this 3 times a week you can lose 20 pounds in a year without even dieting!

Stuffed Cabbage (Golabki)
Ingredients
- 1 Large head of cabbage
- 1 Medium onion
- 2 Eggs
- ½ tsp. Salt
- ½ tsp. Pepper
- 2 Cups cooked rice (white of brown)
- 1½ lbs. Ground beef or ground sirloin
|
Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.
Remove the core from the cabbage and place the cabbage in boiling water till tender - (Putting 1 tsp. of vinegar in the water will speed up the tenderness). Once tender, remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Cook the rice and set it aside until it is cool.
Mix beef, eggs, salt, pepper and chopped onion in a dish and slowly add cooked cool rice.
Peel cooled cabbage leaves and place beef and rice mixture onto the leaf and wrap until covered. Place remaining cabbage leaves on bottom of Dutch oven and lay cabbage wraps on to the leaves in layers. Pour your favorite spaghetti sauce over entire stack of stuffed cabbage. Cover and place the oven for 1 hour.

West Nile Virus: How to protect yourself
Currently the US is experiencing the worst West Nile Virus break out it‘s ever seen. So far, 3, 545 cases and 147 deaths have been reported in 2012 alone. This is the highest toll since the virus was first detected in 1999. This is a potentially deadly disease carried by mosquitoes, and although the outbreak is beginning to slow down, it‘s still very necessary to protect yourself. Here‘s how:
- Make your home mosquito-proof: - Get rid of any standing water in or around your house. This is where mosquitoes lay their eggs. It could be anything from a leak under the sink or bathtub, to standing water in a houseplant. Also make sure your screens (on windows and doors) and tight and secure.
|
- When outdoors, be prepared: - Whether you‘re camping, picnicking, barbecuing with friends, always make sure to bring insect repellent. Keep citronella candles on your patio‘s and try to wear protective clothing such as long sleeves, pants and socks. Also try to avoid irrigated parks and fields as this is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
- Help your community stay clean: - Birds eat bugs, and some cases, finding dead birds in your area might be a sign that the virus is nearby. By reporting occurrences like these to your local health department, you are helping keep your community safe. Standing or stagnant water is also a problem. Many times a drained pool with only a few inches of water is all it takes to bring mosquitoes to an entire block. This can also be reported to your city.
Mosquitoes are usually a seasonal annoyance, however they are present all year long. It‘s important to stay protected at all times. Here‘s to a safe, mosquito and West Nile FREE fall season!
