Embarrassing Habits That Are Actually Good For You
Are you guilty of a bad habit or two?
Let‘s face it we all have embarrassing habits. Whether it‘s not washing your hair everyday to something as simple as cracking your knuckles. Most people are ashamed to display intimate behavior or self-grooming because they worry about what the outside world might think. What is natural to you might be rude and disgusting to others, and vice versa.
When most people understand that they have a bad habit they take steps try to stop doing them, however did you know some bad habits are good?
|
Listed below are some embarrassing habits that we all tend to do at soMe point in our lives that are actually good for us:
- Smelling armpits - It‘s good to be aware of body odor. Smelly armpits can be a sign of an underlying medical problem. Example, if your armpit starts smelling like “beer” this can indicate a kidney problem. Stress also causes a pungent odor which means it‘s time for a vacation.
- Skipping Showers - Our skin contains a good bacteria that don‘t need to be washed away daily. Scrubbing away natural oils can cause itchy, irritated skin which will leave you uncomfortable.
- Cracking Knuckles - Everyone says you‘re going to get arthritis when you‘re older if you keep cracking your knuckles. Cracking your knuckles is healthy for your joints, giving them more flexibility and movement.
- Talking to yourself – We all do it, and it serves a purpose. Talking to yourself connects objects and words to our mind making it easier to find things such as lost keys or locating something in a grocery store.
- Belching – Gross Right? Many people say they belch because it helps them feel less full but actually belching helps in digestion and relieves symptoms of nausea and heartburn.
Remember this is your health, don‘t let the outside world determine what habits you can and cannot do because they think it‘s rude or disgusting.

Creamy, Hearty Wild Rice Soup
Ingredients
- 1 cup wild rice
- 4-5 slices cooked bacon, sliced in 1 inch pieces
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (or an oil of your choice)
- 1 lb sliced muShrooms, fresh or canned
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- 1 cup sliced celery
- 1 medium onion
|
Ingredients Continued
- 2-3 cans chicken broth + 2 cans water
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- ¾ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup flour
- salt and pepper
In a medium to large saucepan, cook wild rice according to package directions. Set aside. Fry Bacon till almost crisp, dice and set aside.
In a Dutch Oven, heat oil over medium heat. Add celery and onions and saute until slightly browned and soft. Stir in flour, salt and pepper and cook until mixture is smooth, stirring constantly.
Add chicken broth, parsley, bacon, mUshrooms and carrots to Dutch Oven and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until carrots are soft. Add Wild Rice. Stir in Sour Cream and you're ready to serve!
*You can adjust the thickness of this soup by adding more or less flour according to preference.
This dish gets its hearty flavor from the combination of Wild Rice and Bacon! It makes a great comfort food in the fall. For an added benefit, add slivered almonds or chopped peanuts to the broth before boiling. It adds a chunky, rich flavor to the dish.
This is a personal favorite of mine! I was born in Minnesota and was introduced to various wild rice dishes as a young child. I love it to this day!
Enjoy! And remember, if it looks good, eat it!!

Don‘t Throw Calisthenics Away Part II
Last month I presented my case to encourage everyone to keep calisthenics in their workout. I wrapped up promising to talk about the benefits of doing calisthenics and I am going to do just that.
As I stated in last month‘s article…
“Doing calisthenics is very beneficial to conditioning and staying in shape. Each activity increases blood flow and oxyGen flow to the brain and muscles making them healthier and increasing their durability. Healthy conditioning of your muscles leads to muscle building and also more endurance.“
|
There are many more benefits to doing calisthenics, though. Here are some for you to think about:
- Reduces injuries while working out. Calisthenics are much easier on your joints then lifting weights. The simple motion of these exercises keeps your body in natural form position and uses the range of motion that your joints are accustomed too. With weight lifting, if it is not done 100% correctly, your body is forced into an obscure position which strains your joints and muscles.
- Increases strength. There is a phrase used by personal trainers that states “Strain does not equal strength“. That guy in the gym that is pressing 350lbs once or twice as you watch the veins burst out of the side if his head is not going to gain any more strength then you are doing your push-ups. In fact, he is going to burn out quicker, reduce his overall endurance and put himself at a higher risk for injury all to gain the bragging rights that he lifted 350lbs. Doing calisthenics uses mainly your own body weight allowing for more consistency and less strain on your body. Strength is built through consistency and conditioning.
- More than 1 way to do them. When doing calisthenics, the options are unlimited on how you do them, when you do them, where you do them and what position or angle you do them at. Changing up the position, angle or location allows you to work various key point muscles in your body and focus on the strength building in that area.
I could go on and on and on about the benefits of doing calisthenics. However, I think (or at least hope) that you get my point. As you proceed with your daily exercises and work-outs, think about what calisthenics you can add in to increase your durability. It is one thing to be ripped but it is another to have strength. Strength is more than just being able to lift 350lbs. It is also the ability to keep up, not tire out as much and stay healthy.
Until next time, Stay Fit, Stay Healthy, Stay Strong!

Crazy, Zany Facts About Halloween We Bet You Didn't Know

- Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween.
- The first Jack O‘Lanterns were actually made from turnips.
- Trick-or-treating evolved from the ancient Celtic tradition of putting out treats and food to placate spirits who roamed the streets at Samhain, a sacred festival that marked the end of the Celtic calendar year.

- Harry Houdini (1874-1926) was one of the most famous and mysterious magicians who ever lived. Strangely enough, he died in 1926 on Halloween night as a result of appendicitis brought on by three stomach punches.
