Smoking And Exercising
At first glance, smoking and exercising do not seem to go hand in hand. Generally smokers do not have a great stamina or over all good health. Inhaling cigarette smoke has many affects on the body and can affect your performance. Cigarette smoke causes tissue inflammation, narrowing airways and allows less oxygen into the body. Although smokers put their health in jeopardy by smoking, they can offset some of the health affects just by exercising.
The best type of exercise for a smoker is cardio.
Jogging – This expands your lungs and fills them with oxygen. Once the oxygen goes to your lungs it is dispersed into your blood cells. While smoking decreases your lung capacity and produces phlegm that clogs your lungs making you cough all the time, jogging will improve the flow of oxygen and will break up the phlegm.
|
Weights – The majority of smokers have high blood pressure due to smoking, and doing exercises that increase the heart rate can cause quick fatigue. Lifting weights is a great way to exercise without pushing yourself. You can lift slowly and use as much weight as you want. Depending on the type of weights, you can work multiple areas of the body, free weights for arms/legs and bench weights for the arms/chest.
Crunches – These help to strengthen your core area, and helps eliminate fat around your stomach. This is low intensity so shortness of breath should be minimal.
If you are out shape a brisk walk would be best recommendation to start with, then work your way to more intense workouts.

Grandma´s Kitchen With Grandma C.:
One Pot Teriyaki Noodles
|
Ingredients
- 1 bag shredded green cabbage
- 2 carrots, shredded
- ⅔ cup soy sauce
- 1 tsp olive oil
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp ground mustard
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 lb box of spaghetti noodles
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 3½ cups water
|
Heat a large pot over medium high heat. Add oil, cabbage and carrots and saute for approx. 5 minutes until vegetables start to get tender.
Add soy sauce, brown sugar, mustard, ginger and garlic to the mixture and stir to mix.
Break the dry spaghetti in half, then add to the pot and pour in the water. Cook for approximately 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
As the water evaporates into the spaghetti noodles, stir more often so they don‘t stick to the pan. Higher elevations may take a few extra minutes to cook.
Serve hot and garnish with sesame seeds.
Enjoy! And remember, if it looks and smells good, eat it!!

Here´s Your Answer
Questions From Our Members
Addressing a very common question:
“My dentist says they take your dental plan… But Are They Authorized To?”
Savon’s Answer
We run into this a lot here at Savon Dental Plan. A member will call in and talk to us about their dentist only to hear the bad news from us that the dentist that they are going to is not credentialed with our office.
We get the same response each time… “Our dentist said that they accept your plan.” That may be the case. Most dental offices will agree to honor the plan in order to retain you as a member, but still, that does not mean that they are a credentialed provider for the plan.
The reasons that you want to make sure that the dentist or specialist you are going to are credentialed with your coverage plan are:
- They will have the most up–to–date fee schedule.
- They will be familiar with the plan and know what discounts are supposed to be given.
- They will know what is covered and you will not be misinformed.
- They will be able to verify your coverage via roster or phone call.
- If you as a member have a problem with the pricing discount, the plan will be able to intervene and help you.
We can not stress this enough. Going to a dentist who is not credentialed with your plan puts you at financial risk! That dentist is under no obligation to give you the discounts or may be charging you off of an outdated fee schedule.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, make sure that whatever dentist you are seeing is authorized BY THE PLAN to take the plan that you have.

SmileDirectClub files for bankruptcy
A direct reprint of an article by Melissa Busch of DrBiscupid.com

Clear aligner company SmileDirectClub filed for voluntary protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code on September 29 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, according to a company press release.
The filing comes as Jordan Katzman and Alex Fenkell, SmileDirectClub‘s founders, seek to recapitalize the clear aligner company. The founders agreed to invest at least $20 million to raise the company‘s balance sheet “to protect its near and long–term financial health.” Upon satisfaction of certain conditions, up to $60 million of additional capital is available, according to the release.
Furthermore, the additional liquidity received from its founders, along with the company‘s operating cash flows, aim to ensure that SmileDirectClub can continue meeting its commitments to stakeholders without disruption, according to the release.
|
“This transaction is designed to ensure our future financial structure reflects the talent of our team members and the quality of our business, and I am excited about the future ahead,” SmileDirectClub CEO David Katzman said in the release.
The bankruptcy comes on the heels of recent legal pitfalls involving SmileDirectClub. In August, a California court confirmed an order requiring the orthodontics company to pay $63 million to Align Technology, a former partner and the maker of Invisalign, over a supply agreement dispute. SmileDirectClub had planned to appeal the decision.
In June, SmileDirectClub settled a suit with the Washington, DC, attorney general‘s office, which claimed the company made injured and dissatisfied customers sign nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) to receive refunds for their clear aligner therapy. Under the terms of the settlement, SmileDirectClub was required to release 17,000 U.S. consumers from provisions in its NDAs. Also, the company had to change its refund policy, notify consumers who previously signed NDAs that they could now freely speak about their experiences, and stop forcing people to sign NDAs that prevented information sharing before refunds were provided.
Until next time; brush, floss and keep smiling!
