Hair Loss In Women
|
We constantly see TV ads about male hair loss and the new hair-growth products they can use but did you know that about 21 million American women suffer from hair loss?
Hair loss on a woman can be devastating, especially for our self confidence and emotional well being. Luckily, most hair loss in women is treatable.
Our hair is made of keratin; this is the same protein that makes up our nails and the outer layer of our skin. The part of the hair that we can see and style is called the hair shaft, which is actually dead tissue made by your hair follicle (weird).
The average human head has about 100,000 hair follicles and each follicle can grow about 20 individual hairs in a person´s lifetime. Your hair grows and sheds daily and you can lose up to 100 strands per day.
|
As our hair gets older, it enters a resting stage, which means it remains on the head but it no longer grows. At the end of that stage is when the hair starts to fall out and a new follicle isn´t replaced.
A variety of factors can cause hair loss in women, such as:
- Age and hormones • Medications • Diet • Stress or illnesses
- Child birth • Alopecia Areata • Thyroid disease • Ringworm
Hair loss that is caused by a medical condition (medication or stress) is often treatable and in some cases your hair may even return on its own. Sometimes, however, this is not the case and hair loss is permanent.
There are some options you could look into such as: wigs, topical products like Rogaine or even having a hair transplant. Before making any decisions, contact your primary care physician to discuss the best option for you!

Grandma´s Kitchen With Grandma C.:
Carrot, Apple, Zucchini Bread
((Borrowed from “MomonTimeout” video, 2013)
|
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, melted |
2 cups granulated sugar |
3 eggs, room temperature |
¼ cup orange juice |
1 tsp vanilla extract |
3¼ c flour |
½ tsp salt |
2½ tsp baking powder |
¼ tsp baking soda |
1 tsp cinnamon |
Pinch of ground cloves |
Pinch of ground nutmeg |
2 cups shredded carrots |
1 cup shredded zucchini |
1 cup peeled, diced apples |
½ cup pecans |
|
Grease and flour 2 loaf pans. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, whisk all dry ingredients together and set aside.
In a separate bowl, whisk together butter and sugar. Add eggs, orange juice and vanilla and whisk till combined.
Press excess liquid from the zucchini… (it will have a lot of moisture in it from shredding.) Fold all dry ingredients into the egg mixture, along with the carrots, apples, zucchini and pecans. Divide evenly between the two loaf pans.
Bake approx. 55 min. or until golden brown, or until tops are spongy and spring back easily.
Ice with your favorite brand of cream cheese frosting, or add a twist of orange extract to the frosting and drizzle over the top of the bread.
I couldn´t resist posting this recipe. With fall coming it is the perfect comfort food!
Enjoy! And remember, if it looks and smells good, eat it!!

Questions From Our Members
R. Adams of Mesa, Arizona asks:
“ I keep seeing ads on TV for ‘One Day Dentures’. Are the ads true and can they really do implants in one day?”
Savon’s Answer
The technical answer is yes. That being said, the implants (studs that go into the bone) can be done in one day. When you leave the office you´ll go home with a temporary set of teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth.
Keep in mind that these are temporary teeth. It can take as few as several weeks to a few months for the implants to bond and heal. Once the implants are healed they will remove the temporary teeth and replace them with new permanent teeth.

Dental Office “In House” Dental Plans
|
If you´ve visited a dental office lately, you may have noticed that they are offering an “in-house” dental plan.
More and more offices are heading in the direction of in-house plans and it has gone to the point that the American Association of Dental Office Management is advertising to dentists showing them how to start and manage their own in-house dental plan.
This is a copy of an email sent to me by the American Association of Dental Office Management:
“Membership Plans are a hot topic these days. However, there is a lot of information out there which can make Membership Plans hard to understand. Kleer has written the definitive guide on how to implement a successful Membership Plan easily.
|
Membership Plans are a great option for existing uninsured patients, retiring patients that are losing dental benefits, dormant patients that avoid visits due to cost or lack of coverage, and uninsured consumers that never visit the dentist.
Now you can learn how to implement a successful Membership Plan in Kleer's all new Ebook, “Dental Membership Plans Made Easy.” In this Ebook, you will learn about:
- Insights about the Dental Market, how dental insurance is broken, and patient needs and interests.
- How Membership Plans increase revenue, treatment compliance, and grow your practice.
- How Kleer can make your Membership Plan successful.
- The benefits of Membership Plans for your practice.
- The benefits of Membership Plans for your patients.
- Case studies.
Download the Ebook, and launch your Membership Plan today with Kleer! If you would like more information or would like to schedule a demo of the Kleer platform, head over to…”
The object of these type of dental plans IS NOT to save you money on your dental care. It´s to TIE YOU INTO THAT DENTAL OFFICE.
These dental plans are only good at the facility where you joined it. If you become disenchanted with the dental office, move too far away or need the services of a Specialist… YOU´RE OUT OF LUCK AND THE MONEY YOU PAID TO JOIN THE PLAN.
According to Kleer: “Our research shows that Membership Plan patients are the best patients. They accept 50-100% more treatment than uninsured patients, are 30-50% more profitable than insured patients, and create recurring subscription revenue that increases the value of your practice.”
This statement alone shows that the only thing these dental offices care about is filling the financial cavity in their practice.
The bottom line is DO NOT make any snap decisions when you are at the dentist office.
If they offer you an “in-house” dental plan, KNOW WHAT YOU ARE JOINING. What might look like a great deal actually cuts your options by 90% and locks the control of your oral health into one facility.
In short… Be smart and consider all of your options.
Until next time; brush, floss and keep smiling!
