Occlusal Radiograph

The only x-ray that is taken without a precision(tm) x-ray holder. The x-ray film for this procedure is shaped like a large oatmeal cookie. You are asked to bite on the x-ray film and the top of the x-ray machine is positioned over your nose for a maxillary occlusal x-ray or under your chin for a mandibular occlusal film. The x- ray shows the whole arch.

Occlusal: Occlusal is the biting surface of a tooth
Occlusal Plane: The imaginary surface on which upper and lower teeth meet.
Occlusal Radiograph: An intraoral radiograph made with the film being hel between the occluded teeth.
Occlusion: The alignment and spacing of your upper and lower teeth when you bite down.
Onlay: An onlay is something laid or applied over something else
Open bite: A malocclusion in which the teeth do not close or come together in the front of your mouth
Oral: Pertaining to the mouth.
Oral Mucosa: Soft tissue in the mouth
Oral Pathologist: An Oral Pathologist is a dentist with special training (usually two or three years) after dental school in the field of pathology (disease)
Oral Surgeon: An Oral Surgeon is a dentist with special hospital training (usually three more years) after dental school in the field of surgery in the head and neck area of the body including the mouth

Oral Surgery: Oral Surgery is the science of surgically removing diseases of the oral cavity (mouth) and the surrounding structures
Orthodontia: Braces
Orthodontic Chain: Orthodontic Chain A stretchable plastic chain used to hold archwires into brackets and to moke teeth.
Orthodontics: Orthodontics (braces) is the science of correcting a malocclusion (crooked) of teeth in the oral cavity (mouth).
Orthodontist: An Orthodontist is a dentist who has had special training (usually two more years) after dental school in the field of occlusion (biting) and function (interaction of the teeth) of the human dentition.
Osteoblasts: Cells which aid the growth and development of teeth and bones.
Osteoclasts: Cells which help create the sockets in bones. For example osteoclasps create the openings in your jaw bone to hold your teeth.
Out of Network Provider: An out of network provider is a dental provider who's fees are usual and customary and doesn't participate in any of Savon's money-saving plans
Overbite: Vertical overlapping of the upper teeth over the lower.
Overjet: Horizontal projection of upper teeth beyond the lower.
